Can't import CR2 files into LR5 for MAC

Trying to import CR2 files into LR5, but no success. I'm running 5.6 LR5 with 8.6 Camera Raw. I'm using Mac 10.9.4 and have tried import from memory card direct and via the camera (GX-1). I can import the CR2 files into PS-CC no problem.

I didn't have a problem with this before, but just got a new iMAC with Mavericks.

Any ideas will be welcomed. I manged about 600 shots today converting them using Adobe's DNG converter and then importing them - but it's a real pain.
